KRŠAN

The citadel of Kršan was mentioned for the first time in 1274 and the name Kršan or Kerscheyner dates from the 15th cent when the citadel becomes the property of the family Kerstlein de Pisino. The last owner of Kršan was a nobleman Tonetti from Plomin known also as "the count of church".

In the middle of the 19th cent in Kršan was found the "Delimitation of Istria"- medieval document containing details of the literacy and the way of living in this area. Today, unfortunately, the citadel is abandoned.

Also another valuable structure is located at the local cemetery – the little St Jacob church, the saint considered the protector of Kršan. In 1991 during the restoration of the interior a script in Latin and two scripts in glagolista alphabet were found.

In the 17th cent by the walls of the citadel a two-ship St Anton church was built but its final structure with a vault in the form of a cross was given a hundred years later. The organ was set in the church in 1911.
